Teaching with Poverty in Mind

November28

This is an interesting video excerpt from 60 minutes about students facing poverty.

Last night, 60 Minutes aired an “update” to the story on homeless children and youth that initially ran in March. Last night’s episode focuses on homeless families who are living in cars, and once again features the efforts of Beth Davalos, the McKinney-Vento liaison for Seminole County Public Schools in Florida. The segment may be viewed at:

In addition, CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley will feature Beth’s program again, tonight, in particular her efforts to organize a community event to provide resources and support to homeless families.

Both shows provide excellent opportunities to raise awareness of child and youth homelessness, and the role of public schools in responding to it.
